Water :

One of the most important requirements for tilapia growth in captivity is a sufficient water supply.

Temperature :

Tilapia grows between 20º and 35ºC, however the best growing temperature is between 25º and 30º.

In the Equatorial zone, the climate in the lower lands is always hot, and spawning takes place year round, which is not the case of zones where climate has sharp changes, as tilapia does not spawn during the cold season.
Oxygen :

Tilapia may live in adverse environmental conditions and can bear low concentrations of dissolved oxygen; however, feed consumption and growth decreases.

It is not convenient that culture conditions decrease to critical levels below 2-3 mg/l, specially in absence of sunlight.

pH :
The convenient water pH range for culture is 7 –8 . On the other hand, the more stable the pH is improve conditions for an adequate natural productivity.
Alkalinity and hardness:
An alkalinity of approximately 75mg.CaCO3/l is considered adequate to enhance tank productivity.
Nutritional Requirements :
A vitamin A,B,D,K complex, and specially vitamin C are important in the daily feed supply, because these act as bio-catalysts and help in the fish inmunity.
